Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is provided under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan for the following approved conditions:

  • Air or Gas Embolism
  • Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
  • Gas Gangrene
  • Crush Injury, Compartment Syndrome and Other Acute Trauamatic Ischemia’s
  • Decompression sickness
  • Enhancement of Healing in Selected Problem Wounds
  • Exceptional blood loss (Anemia)
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Chronic osteomyelitis
  • Soft tissue radiation necrosis
  •  Radiation damage affecting the bone
  • Compromised Skin Grafts and Flaps
  • Thermal Burns
  • Sudden sensorineural hearing loss

The Ottawa Hospital Hyperbaric Medicine Unit follows evidence-based guidelines funded by OHIP, follows hospital protocols, and do not treat off-label indications or self-pay indications. We do not provide diving medical exams.
