The Ottawa Hospital has set a clear goal of becoming a leader in quality and patient safety in North America. To achieve this goal, The Ottawa Hospital has committed to five strategic areas : Quality, People, Academics, Community and Finance.

Physicians have a key role to play in each of these strategic areas and in partnering with the hospital to achieve our tripartite mandate of clinical care, research and education.

To foster the relationship with its physicians, the Hospital worked with front line medical staff and physician leaders to develop a TOH / Physician Engagement Agreement. This Agreement defines the principles of the relationship, interaction, and expectations between the Hospital and our physicians. These principles provide a basis for improving collaborative efforts, resolving conflict, and promoting value-based behaviours. It also represents a mutual desire and commitment to support a common mission and vision of service and clinical excellence.

The Engagement Agreement outlines the principles which frame a discussion between the hospital and our physicians in respect of the mutual commitments within the Agreement. As part of that discussion, staff physicians are encouraged to provide feedback on Hospital performance in respect of the Hospital’s commitments within the Agreement.
