Dr. Karas completed his medical degree at McMaster University and subsequent residency in Family Medicine at The University of Ottawa.  Since 1983 he has been involved in various clinical programs and educational initiatives and was appointed Department Head of Family Medicine in 1988 at The Ottawa General Hospital.  Most recently, he completed the Champlain LHIN Senior Management Program and The Just Culture Certification course.

He is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine; Faculty of Medicine at The University of Ottawa Dr. Karas is the Head of the Department of Family Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital.
