March 31, 2016 – The Ottawa Hospital received notification that a statement of defence has been filed by one of the defendants named in the lawsuit we launched earlier this year. We anticipate further statements of defence will be filed within the coming weeks. The matter is before the court, so we cannot specifically comment on this or any of the defendant’s allegations.

We are following due process and throughout this process we will continue to act in the best interests of the Hospital and the community we serve. In the meantime we continue to reinforce our zero tolerance for fraud, or any behaviour that breaches Hospital policies and values. We are also regularly assessing and implementing enhancements to our policies, processes and controls to protect the Hospital from the risk of fraud.
