TOH supports changes to Ontario hospital parking rules

January 19, 2015 – On Monday, the Ontario government announced that hospitals with fees of $10 per day or more will be frozen at their current rates, and will be required to offer five-day, ten-day, and monthly passes at a discount of at least 50 percent.

At $13 per day, TOH’s patient and visitor parking is the lowest of all hospitals in Ottawa. The hospital also already offers discounted weekly, monthly and 15-day passes to ease parking fees for patients and visitors – the monthly pass falls well below the Ministry-recommended 50 percent discount. Patients and visitors can buy passes at campus security offices 24/7.

All passes have in-and-out privileges. For example, patients who have paid for a day pass can leave and return to the hospital – or to any other TOH campus – as often as needed on that day.

TOH will soon be introducing a five- and ten-day pass option so that patients and visitors have more options.

Our parking rates for patients and visitors have not risen in over a decade. TOH’s total parking revenue in 2015 was $12M. Parking revenues go towards purchasing medical equipment, investing in research, and maintaining our parking lots (including safety, lighting, paving, and technology).

Rates for patient and visitor parking at TOH:

1/2 hour: $ 3.50
Day maximum (12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.):  $13.00
Weekly pass:  $42.25
Monthly pass:  $92.00
15-day pass (non-consecutive):  $105
