The Ottawa Hospital and University of Ottawa renew affiliation agreement

June 9, 2016 – Today, alongside four other hospitals in the city, The Ottawa Hospital signed an agreement renewing its affiliation with the University of Ottawa. It empowers all members to move as one entity to continue to improve and innovate in health education and research.

The Affiliation Agreement is an agreement to recognize and address shared academic missions between The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa’s Faculties of Medicine, Social Sciences, Health Sciences and Telfer, signed alongside four other hospitals in Ottawa: CHEO, the Royal, Montfort and Bruyère Continuing Care.

What makes this affiliation unique?

Other Canadian medical schools have individual agreements with their hospital partners. What makes ours unique is that it is a single, all-encompassing agreement for all organizations.

The original agreement was signed in 2011 and the updated agreement has minor additions to enhance the student experience. The agreement allows the organizations to better monitor the learning environment, with research and bilingualism continuing as priorities.

The agreement ensures that the University of Ottawa and the hospitals give each other preferential status for trainee placement and that department chairs are collaboratively responsible for carrying out their academic mission across all partner hospitals.
