The Ottawa Hospital and University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine to participate in Doors Open Ottawa

June 2, 2017 – The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine are pleased to announce our participation in Doors Open Ottawa. This is the first time both organizations will take part in this event that gives the public access to buildings they might not otherwise have a chance to see.

The public will be visiting The Ottawa Hospital’s General and Civic campuses for expert-led tours that highlight the 21st-century health care we provide to the residents of Ottawa and Eastern Ontario. Featured this year are:

  • The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre (General Campus, 505 Smyth Road)
  • A cancer research lab (General Campus, 501 Smyth Road)
  • Minimally-invasive surgical suites (Civic Campus, 1053 Carling Avenue)
  • The University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre (Civic Campus, 1053 Carling Avenue)

Visitors to the Faculty of Medicine at Roger Guindon Hall, on the General Campus, will hear first-hand from researchers who work with the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute (uOBMRI). They will be introduced to the world of basic science with a rare peek inside the uOBMRI labs and a description of the work being done to treat and prevent brain-related illness like Parkinson’s and stroke.

Details:

Roger Guindon Hall (451 Smyth Road): Tours are first come, first served basis beginning at 10 a.m. The last tour begins at 3 p.m. and each tour is limited to 30 people. We will have sign-up sheets onsite where visitors can secure their spots on the tour. The tours are available for those six years of age and older. There will also be hands-on science activities for visitors of all ages.

The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre (505 Smyth Road): Between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., take a tour of the facility that culminates with a demonstration inside the virtual reality lab, a partnership with the Canadian Forces.

The minimally-invasive surgical suites, The University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre and the cancer research lab tours are fully booked following a successful pre-registration.
