The Ottawa Hospital and Kingston Health Sciences Centre assume management of additional dialysis facilities

Providers working together to streamline care. Patient services and staff remain the same.

OTTAWA – December 21, 2022 – The Ottawa Hospital and Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ontario Renal Network, have assumed management of three dialysis centres, which were managed by Fresenius Medical Care (FMC), in order to streamline patient care in the region.

As of December 20, The Ottawa Hospital now operates the Eastern Ontario/Cornwall and Ottawa-Carleton dialysis clinics, and the Kingston Health Sciences Centre manages the Brockville dialysis clinic. Patient care, services and staff have not changed.

“Collaboration opportunities like this help streamline care in the region and ensure that everyone who needs care will get it when they need it,” said Janet Graham, Regional Director of Nephrology and Director of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital. “We are grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with our healthcare partners and are working with patients and staff to make this transfer as seamless as possible.”

Teams at The Ottawa Hospital, KHSC and FMC are committed to keeping everyone up-to-date and engaged throughout this process. This includes working closely with patients and staff to ensure they have all the information they need as they navigate this transfer of care.

“Ensuring the continuity of care throughout this change is the top priority,” said Lori Van Manen, Director of Renal Services and Palliative Care at KHSC. “We want to stress for patients and employees that services will remain the same and current clinic staff will stay on the job.”
