Statement from The Ottawa Hospital

The Ottawa Hospital is a public institution and provides care to the most critically ill in Eastern Ontario and throughout Nunavut.

The hospital is working with the community to address key issues. In September, a third-party engagement report was released which identifies the issues that are important to the community and recommends a way forward.

In November and December, the hospital held an initial series of seven public information sessions. Feedback included concern about greenspace, mature trees on the site, parking, access and traffic; a summary of the feedback can be seen here. The next Open House session will take place on January 31 at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne, from 7 to 9 p.m., where architects and health planners will present an initial design concept for the new campus, that takes into account the community feedback we have heard so far.

Those initial sessions outlined key points including:

  1. The campus being built is a public-sector, not private-sector development, and does not include the development of private sector structures such as condos.
  2. The new design will propose underground parking as an integral part of the design of the new campus.
  3. The hospital supports institutional zoning by the City, which by definition does not permit the development of condos and other similar private sector buildings.

The hospital looks forward to working with the people of Ottawa on solutions that serve patients and the community for this and future generations.
