Statement on COVID-19 case on hospital unit

The Ottawa Hospital has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on one of its inpatient units. Because of the importance of this infection, the decision to declare an outbreak was made by TOH in conjunction with Ottawa Public Health, although this outbreak involves only one patient who became infected while in hospital. It is unclear how this patient was infected. The patient is now in isolation and no other patients were in contact with this individual.

Staff are being reminded to wear masks as directed while in clinical areas, to practice scrupulous hand hygiene and physical distancing, and to leave work immediately and be tested if they develop any COVID symptoms. Our no visitor policy continues to be in effect.

We continue to monitor patients for symptoms of COVID-19.  Any patient who develops symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 while in hospital will be isolated and tested. Staff who may have been exposed have contacted and informed of appropriate measures to take.
