Statement by The Ottawa Hospital regarding the Federal Site Review for the New Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital

November 24, 2016  Today, the National Capital Commission recommended the selection of Tunney’s Pasture as the site for a new Civic Campus. The recommendation now goes to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and the federal government to finalize the land transfer process.

The site recommended today was not among the top-ranked sites in our 2008 or 2016 reports. The hospital understood that the federal government had a vision and plans for the Tunney’s Pasture development that did not include a hospital. We understand today that there have been recent changes to the vision for Tunney’s Pasture that could enable a hospital to be located there.

In our 2016 report, we did raise concerns regarding access delays due to traffic volume heading north on Parkdale Avenue from the Queensway. We also raised concerns about the cost and timelines for demolishing existing facilities and relocating federal government departments.

We have not yet had an opportunity to review the NCC’s report released today. Over the coming weeks, we will work with our partners in the municipal, provincial and federal governments to plan a way forward. Until that review is complete, the hospital is not in a position to comment further.
