Restricted smoking areas will support wellness at The Ottawa Hospital

December 31, 2015 – The Ontario government has passed an amendment to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act making it illegal to smoke on hospital property as of January 2016 – unless you’re in a designated smoking area.

Maps marked with designated smoking areas are available here.

The change is in line with the hospital’s policy but it means that now, smokers outside the designated zones could be fined.

A second amendment to the legislation is set to take effect in two years. As of January 2018, smoking on hospital property will be entirely banned.

The Ottawa Hospital is committed to building healthier communities and to fostering a healthy, safe workplace. Providing smoke-free spaces for our patients, visitors, and staff will support our efforts to achieve these goals.
