March 9, 2012 – At this time, there are no large shortages of medications at The Ottawa Hospital and no surgeries have been postponed or cancelled.
In response to the medication shortage affecting hospitals across Canada, Ontario has initiated its Emergency Operations Centre. A technical working group is assessing the situation and determining next steps for healthcare providers in the province. In collaboration with hospitals, they will issue guidelines on prioritization of patients should medication supplies fall short.
The first priority for the working group is life-saving drugs without alternatives, a situation that does not affect The Ottawa Hospital at this time.
