What is “urgent care?”

Urgent care is when you need immediate care for an injury or illness that is not serious enough to require a visit to a hospital emergency department.

What are my urgent care options?

You will have access to a Family Health Team doctor during extended evening and weekend hours for urgent problems.

If you need assistance after hours, you will be able to telephone the Family Health Team Telephone Health Advisory Service where a registered nurse is available to provide advice about your urgent health-care concerns.

How do I contact the “Telephone Health Advisory Service?”

If it is an emergency, what should I do?

For all emergencies, go directly to your nearest emergency department, or call 911 if necessary. If you are unwell enough to require admission to hospital, you may be admitted under the Family Medicine In-Patient Service. All of the physicians of the Family Health Team have admitting privileges at the Ottawa Hospital; some are actively involved in in-patient medical care.
