The Multi Care Kidney Clinic
The Multi Care Kidney Clinic (formerly called the Progressive Renal Insufficiency or PRI Clinic) is a specialty nephrology clinic for people with advanced chronic kidney disease. The clinic is staffed by a team of nephrologists who have a particular interest in this area of nephrology, working with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, dietitians, social workers and pharmacists specializing in advanced chronic kidney disease.
In this clinic, we offer education, counselling, dietary advice, and nephrology care to more than 600 patients with advanced chronic kidney disease. We focus on slowing progression of kidney disease, managing complications, and preparation for renal replacement therapy, such as kidney transplantation or dialysis (peritoneal or hemodialysis). We provide decision support for patients who need to make a decision about doing dialysis at home or in the hospital, and for patients who are considering choosing conservative (non-dialysis) care.
We have also started working with palliative care colleagues to provide improved symptom management, and care focussed on quality of life, for patients who have chosen conservative kidney management (no dialysis, even if the kidneys fail).
