Overview

The Division of Nephrology at The Ottawa Hospital provides clinical care to residents of Ottawa and most of Eastern Ontario who suffer from kidney diseases. The Division’s active kidney transplantation program also serves as a tertiary referral centre for the Renfrew and Sudbury area.

The Ottawa Hospital’s Nephrology program is one of the largest in Canada and offers a broad range of services to those affected by kidney diseases.

Dialysis care has transitioned from Fresenius Medical Care to The Ottawa Hospital and Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

As part of this transition, medical records for patients previously receiving care at Fresenius Medical Care have been transferred to the patient’s new care facility. Patient privacy is always a top priority, and all necessary precautions were taken when making this transfer.

These include various types of kidney dialysis, a kidney transplantation program and a number of highly specialized clinics offered at the Jindal Kidney Care Centre. Inpatient care is centralized at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital. We also offer, in association with The University of Ottawa, a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada accredited Residency Program in Nephrology. It can accommodate residents from Canada and abroad who wish to specialize in Nephrology. These are usually doctors who have completed residency programs in internal medicine. Our team of doctors, nurses and other health professionals strive to offer the best care possible to all our patients.
