Salary Range

$67.627 to $82.276/hour

Position Information    

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is seeking a high energy, flexible, and dynamic healthcare leader to join its team in an exciting opportunity to serve as Advanced Practice Nurse.

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is Canada’s largest and foremost heart health center in dedicated to understanding, treating, and preventing heart disease. As the sole provider of tertiary cardiovascular care in the Champlain Region, we work closely with our regional partners to deliver world-class care to the 1.2 million residents of Eastern Ontario. Temporary position until approximately November 7, 2026. 

What you will bring

  • Master’s degree in nursing or equivalent field;
  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, and RNAO.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent cardiac care clinical experience including cardiac surgery and/or cardiology experience;
  • Progressive leadership skills is required;
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in diabetes care, including in-depth understanding of diabetes pathophysiology, comprehensive patient assessment, pharmacologic and non pharmacologic treatment regimens, insulin and non-insulin therapies, and the prevention, identification, and management of acute and chronic complications.
  • Strong knowledge of chronic disease management principles, including patient-centered care, self-management education, behavior change strategies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and long-term monitoring to optimize clinical outcomes and quality of life.
  • Proven understanding of inpatient and ambulatory care environments, with the ability to adapt clinical practice to varying acuity levels, workflows, and care coordination needs across hospital, outpatient, and community-based settings;
  • Expert level practice skill and advanced practice experience;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills; Demonstrated leadership ability;
  • Research, teaching and consulting skills; Knowledge of statistics and ability to analyze fiscal and patient care data;
  • Clinical expertise related to patient care and administrative, educational and research matters; Advanced skills and previous experience in the clinical specialty; research, teaching and consultation;
  • Ability to be an effective change agent, advanced interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to respond to large numbers of simultaneous demands from patients, families, staff, physicians, Material Management, Human Resources, etc.; Responsible and accountable for management of budgets and human and physical resources; Demonstrates ability to adjust to new and unexpected events;
  • Able to critically appraise practice related to quality improvement, ethical and clinical issues;
  • Ability to determine feasibility of potential research, educational or clinical initiatives;
  • Contributes to clinical standards which improve quality of care in a fiscally responsible manner; Strives to undertake all activities in an efficient and effective manner;
  • Identifies potential for patient or institutional risk and intervenes appropriately;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of concentration in a busy working environment;
  • Ability to function productively under varying levels of stress;
  • Ability to delegate;
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Highly developed communication skills and public speaking ability.

  • Diabetes Educator Certificate;
  • Proficiency in English and French oral expression (superior level) and comprehension (superior level).
