Dr. Hébert is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Faculty. On July 1st, 2015, he was appointed as Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Before taking over his new role, he had over 13 years of experience in departmental leadership within The Ottawa Hospital. He has pursued several Leadership and Executive courses over the past few years in order to expand his administrative experience.
Dr. Hébert has been a leading Canadian expert in point of care ultrasound in trauma and bedside applications in the Emergency Department. He has worked in program development and the establishment of national standards, and has presented across Canada in translating this new and evolving field. As a Trauma Team Leader with the Regional Trauma Program, he also pursues an interest in Trauma Care at TOH. He is also an Advance Trauma Life Support Course Instructor.
Dr. Hébert has been sitting on the Board of The Ottawa Hospital Academic Medical Organization (TOHAMO) since 2005, helping lead transformation in the academic funding and support of The Ottawa Hospital’s academic physicians. In 2012 he was appointed Chair.
Dr. Hébert is an alumna of the Faculty’s MD Class of 1990. He pursued his first residency in Internal Medicine in Ottawa at the Faculty and his second residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, holding specialty certification in both above disciplines. He is fluently bilingual in both French and English.
