Erika Farrington and Scott Ogilvie were married on July 26 at the General Campus – a beautiful memory for all involved.
Planning a wedding in a day might seem daunting, but to a number of staff members at the General Campus, it was a challenge worth pursuing.
Patient Erika Farrington had her September wedding plans interrupted by an unexpected admission to 5East from the Emergency Department and a move to palliative care. But she decided she wanted to get married right away to fiancé Scott Ogilvie. So, Sharon Judge-Hatoum, Clinical Care Leader for the General Campus Emergency Department, coordinated with the family and many other helpful staff members to make sure it was a wedding to remember.
From Logistical and Food Services, John McHardy, Robin Palmer, Layla Mekki, Sue Batista, Guy Girard and Kevin Peters organized and set up the Royal Room for the reception with food, drinks and tables.
After some detective work, Kathy Bickerton and Carrie Crawford found a dress from the With Love Bridal Boutique, which provided five dress options and a consultant – free of charge – who came to the hospital to do Erika’s makeup and ensure the dress fit properly.
James Williams, Emilie Tessier and Liz Campbell from 5East provided support so the bride could make the trip to the Butterfly Garden (on the hill between the General Campus and CHEO) where the evening ceremony was held under sunny skies.
Sadly, Erika passed away on Aug. 2.
Her story was also told by the CBC.
