Physician’s referrals or interdisciplinary referrals are required for Occupational Therapy services. To receive a referral, speak to a health professional working with you during your stay in the hospital.

Your Occupational Therapist can provide you with a list of vendors in the Ottawa Carleton area who carry assistive and mobility devices for purchase or for rent. You may also want to look on the Internet or the Yellow Pages under “Hospital Equipment and Suppliers, Ottawa.”

How do I purchase a wheelchair?

Your Occupational Therapist can provide you with information towards purchasing a wheelchair and accessories. Speak to your therapist about the Assistive Devices Program, a program run by the Ontario Ministry of Health to assist with the financial cost of mobility devices.

How do I find an Occupational Therapist in the community?

Occupational Therapists in the community can be located through the Internet or the Yellow Pages under “Occupational Therapists, Ottawa”.  You can also contact the Community Care Access Centre nearest you and request an Occupational Therapy assessment in your home.
