December 8, 2011 – The Ottawa Hospital’s corporate HSMR of 91 reflects that our care processes have consistently resulted in fewer deaths than we would expect based on the complexity of our patients.
There is a variation between the Civic and General campuses, with the General campus being higher as a result of the patient mix. Despite the higher number, the number of deaths does not exceed what is expected and further investigation suggests that the statistical methods used to derive the measure are highlighting this discrepancy, not differences in quality of care.
