Policy change for missed appointments

Information for patients: Policy change for missed appointments

Our region is currently experiencing a serious shortage of family physicians despite a high demand for medical appointments. In order for us to provide access to the highest-quality care possible for all of our patients, we are trying to reduce the number of missed appointments in our clinic.

When you have a booked appointment, please either keep your appointment or cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice so that we can offer your appointment to another patient. As of January 1st 2018, if you miss your booked appointment without at least 24 hours’ notice, you will be charged $40 for a missed appointment.

To make it easier for you to notify us 24 hours in advance, you will soon be able to cancel appointments by leaving us a detailed voicemail message instead of waiting to speak with a representative.

Please remember that The Ottawa Hospital’s Academic Family Health Team does not provide a walk-in service. You must have an appointment to see a physician or any of our team members.

Urgent appointment times

We have created additional urgent appointment times to help you get a scheduled appointment for urgent issues. They are booked same day starting at 8:30am on a first come, first serve basis. They can’t be used for regular follow-up appointments, yearly health reviews, prescription renewals, forms, etc – those appointments must be booked in advance as usual.

Urgent appointment hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 5 to 8 p.m., Civic Campus
  • Wednesday 5 to 8 p.m., Riverside Campus
  • Saturday 9:00am to 1:00pm., Civic Campus

When you come for any appointment, please ensure you always bring your medication in its original container.

We look forward to following up with you at a future visit.

Please call us if you have questions.
Civic: 613-761-4334
Riverside: 613-738-8219

Yours truly,

The Ottawa Hospital Academic Family Health Team
