Involves the assessment, treatment and education of clients with orthopedic, rheumatologic, neurologic, surgical and/or medical disorders. It is directed towards the prevention and alleviation of dysfunction.
Physiotherapy is provided to relieve pain, strengthen muscles, improve joint mobility and range of motion, enhance balance and coordination, improve cardiorespiratory function, decrease inflammation and improve overall function of the client.
Treatment may include
- diagnosis-specific therapeutic exercise, balance and proprioceptive exercises, gait re-education
- manual therapy/joint mobilization, postural correction
- electrotherapeutic modalities such as ultrasound, laser, interferential, muscle stimulation, biofeedback and TENS
- whirlpool, wax, hot and cold applications
- incontinence retraining
- post-op total knee
- Parkinsons’ class
The Physiotherapy Clinic treats mainly orthopedic conditions (joints, muscles and bones), but also provides other specialized services including treatment of the hand, vestibular (balance), urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, neurological, facial, osteoporosis, arthritic disorders and Feldenkrais therapy.
