Dr. Amel Arnaout

Dr. Amel Arnaout is the Senior Medical Officer at The Ottawa Hospital and an Endocrinologist with a cross-appointment in Cardiology. She is also an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Arnaout’s clinical practice focuses on the management of diabetes and high-risk patients with complex cardiometabolic disease. She completed an Executive MBA at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa, equipping her with advanced leadership and management expertise. In addition to her clinical work, she serves as Director of Postgraduate Medical Education and Fellowship and is the Medical Director of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Diabetes Program.

Recognized nationally for her contributions to medical education, Dr. Arnaout is widely regarded as a leader in innovative teaching. She has spearheaded several educational initiatives, including the launch of the Virtual Care Curriculum, aimed at preparing future physicians for evolving models of care.

Her academic interests include quality improvement, patient experience, and integrated care models for chronic disease management. In her role as Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Arnaout provides strategic leadership in medical affairs, patient relations, medical staff human resources, and governance across The Ottawa Hospital. She brings a strong combination of clinical expertise, academic leadership, and operational experience to advance the hospital’s mission.
