Ride the Rideau is Back!

Ride the Rideau is Eastern Ontario’s largest single-day cancer fundraiser and will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

In just two years, we have raised an incredible $2.7M for cancer research at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). In our first year, we had over 300 riders, and last year, we more than doubled that number. This year, we hope to have over 1,000 riders.

Each year, our riders, or our ‘heroes’, as we like to call them, ride alongside our cancer survivor riders. On ride day, you can identify our cancer survivors by the white flags on the backs of their bikes.

This year’s 100 km ride will start at the new CE Centre and will once again take participants from Ottawa to Merrickville.

We ask our riders to raise $1,500 each. In 2010, proceeds from the ride helped to build the new Centre for Innovative Cancer Research at The Ottawa Hospital. It is a unique, world-class laboratory that is enabling our researchers to rapidly move their discoveries into the clinic to benefit patients.

In 2011, funds supported a number of related cancer research initiatives, including clinical trials and the development of novel targeted therapies, such as cancer-fighting viruses that target tumours without harming normal tissues.

Mark September 8 on your calendar! Visit www.ridetherideau.ca for more information, to register to ride, or to become a volunteer.
