The Ottawa Hospital nurses have begun to “Wear White on Wednesdays” to help patients more easily identify them.
Nurses at The Ottawa Hospital have begun to wear either white tops or white uniforms on Wednesdays to demonstrate pride in their profession and distinguish themselves from other professionals.
They’re part of a cross-Canada “Wear White on Wednesdays” campaign to promote a professional image for nurses and show their understanding of how important it is to patients that nurses are easily identifiable.
“Research shows that patients find it difficult to identify nurses just by their name badge,” said Evelyn Kerr, Acting Executive Vice-President of Nursing and Professional Practice. “Patients feel that RNs appear professional and are easily identified by a standard uniform style and colour. I invite all nurses to join me in wearing a white top or uniform on Wednesdays.”
