This is a joint message from the Ottawa area hospitals: Bruyère, CHEO, Montfort, The Ottawa Hospital, The University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Queensway Carleton Hospital.
OTTAWA – April 9, 2021 – With the rising cases of COVID-19 in our community, Ottawa-area adult hospitals are taking further action to preserve critical care and human resource capacity. In-line with the directive from Ontario Health, adult hospitals in the Ottawa area are taking a planned approach to postpone some non-urgent surgeries and services. Pediatric surgeries will continue as planned; CHEO is not included in this.
As they have been throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals are always here to care for patients, and are working together to find solutions to protect the safety of our patients and staff, while continuing to provide excellent care. Of course, patients throughout the region will continue to receive urgent and emergency surgeries and care.
Hospitals are currently evaluating the direction from Ontario Health, and determining exactly how this will be implemented in their respective hospitals, while remaining aligned in the approach to provide high-quality care throughout the region. Surgeries postponed will be selected on a set of clear criteria to carefully consider the health-care needs of patients while maintaining their safety.
Staff will notify patients impacted by this as soon as possible, and ensure that they have all the information they need regarding their care.
