Diabetes Clinic
Our program is the major referral centre in Eastern Ontario for complex diabetes care. Our diabetes team combines experience and expertise with the latest advances in research and education for reaching optimal diabetes care.
Our team members will work with you to create an individualized plan of care based on your health profile and lifestyle. This involves a program of education and multidisciplinary care to manage your diabetes. This may also include referrals to specialists to prevent or delay the progression of complications.
Whether you are newly diagnosed with diabetes, want to improve your control or have realized that your efforts to manage your diabetes are not meeting with success, we can help you reach your goals.
Endocrine Clinic
The General Endocrinology Clinic diagnoses and treats patients referred from their physicians with lipid (‘cholesterol’) disorders, thyroid disease (benign and malignant) and disorders of other endocrine glands (pituitary, parathyroid, adrenal and some male and female reproductive disorders). Care is provided by teams of specialists, physicians in training and other health-care providers. Fine needle biopsies of thyroid nodules are provided by some physicians.
Lipid Clinic
The Lipid Clinic is for the diagnosis and management of patients with dyslipidemia. The lipid specialist can arrange genetic testing for rare lipid abnormalities.
Osteoporosis Clinic
Osteoporosis is a common disease, which leads to weakening of the bones and fractures. Patients are referred to this clinic by Family Doctors and Specialists. The patients are assessed by an osteoporosis specialist to determine the underlying bone problems and treatments are recommended. In addition to Osteoporosis, care is provided for a variety of Metabolic Bone diseases. Patients are frequently assessed with special X-rays called Bone Mineral Densitometry and blood tests are often needed.
Thyroid Cancer Clinic
We provide care, management and follow-up for patients with thyroid cancer. This includes consultation and medical therapy by the specialists. Our clerks will arrange radioactive iodine treatment, imaging scans and other tests as needed. The Registered Practical Nurse will provide information, education and ongoing support for patients undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer.
