Position Information
Join our team as a Professional Leader, Pharmacy with the University of Heart Institute (UOHI)!
The Pharmacy Professional Leader (PPL) is dedicated to putting patients first and providing clinical leadership to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. This role ensures that pharmaceutical care and drug distribution practices align with the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities Competencies and Standards, Ontario College of Pharmacists Regulations and Standards, as well as University of Ottawa Heart Institute policies.
The PPL collaborates with various programs, departments, and units to ensure that pharmaceutical care and drug distribution services are safe, high-quality, and efficient.
Additionally, the PPL serves as a second level expert for patients referred for advanced pharmaceutical care options and provides specialized support to the cardiac transplant program, including clinician education and active participation in transplant team meetings.
Key responsibilities include supporting the Clinical Pharmacy Manager in resource allocation, medication utilization monitoring and stewardship, pharmacy informatics development, and human resources-related matters. The PPL is also responsible for coordinating daily operational requirements under the guidance of the Clinical Pharmacy Manager.
What you will bring
- Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) or Entry to Practice Doctor of Pharmacy;
- Unrestricted Part A Ontario College of Pharmacists License;
- Minimum five (5) years of hospital pharmacy experience;
- Proven ability to work effectively with all members of a health care team;
- Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, including ability to lead, facilitate change and willingness to participate in work related initiatives;
- Knowledge of change management, adult education principles and/or learning theory;
- Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, office software, and database applications
- Knowledge of statistics and ability to analyze fiscal patient care data;
- Knowledge of collective agreements, governance principles and committee structures and interrelatedness;
- In depth knowledge of hospital practice, drug distribution systems, and safe medication practices;
- Expert knowledge in pharmacist and pharmacy technician clinical practice, and knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care;
- Superior conflict management, project management, and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, coaching, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- Strong leadership skills to support and provide directions to staff in a highly stressful and rapidly changing environment;
- Ability to deal with difficult situations and crisis;
- Superior oral/written communication, and ability to interact with large groups, including
presentation preparation and delivery to hospital executives; - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain strict confidentiality;
- Seeks innovative and creative solutions to challenges, thinks ahead, uses logic to anticipate steps and outcomes, recognizes patterns, and encourages this same openness and adaptability in others;
- Ability to maintain a high level of concentration in a busy working environment
- Organizational, time management and planning skills;
You will stand out with
- Post-baccalaureate Doctor of Pharmacy or Master of Science in Pharmacy, or equivalent;
- Accredited Canadian Pharmacy Residency;
- Managing/leading multiple direct reports in a unionized health care setting;
- National/provincial pharmacy regulatory experience;
- Knowledge of Accreditation Canada standards;
- Knowledge of cardiac transplant pharmaceutical care;
- Knowledge of current legislation affecting pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other health professionals;
- In depth knowledge of the regulatory framework for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in Ontario considering NAPRA Standards and OCP Regulations and Standards;
- Proficiency in English and French oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
