Through Mental Well-Being Response Team (MWRT), callers to 9-1-1 experiencing a mental health issue may receive a medical assessment by a paramedic and a mental health assessment by a mental health professional who can provide resource referrals, a care plan, and arrange for follow-up mental health care. This type of response allows these individuals to remain safe in the community, providing the right care when and where they need it.  

The MWRT also provides an opportunity for referral to TOH’s Mobile Crisis Team (MCT), which links patients to the community Crisis Bed Program.  This voluntary, community-based alternative for people experiencing mental health crises who do not require inpatient hospitalization, but who would benefit from access to temporary accommodation in a supportive environment, provides individuals with an opportunity to initiate steps to resolve their crisis through problem solving, symptom stabilization, and links to community supports.
