Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship Program

The Ottawa Hospital offers a one-year funded clinical fellowship in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. 

The fellowship is designed to prepare general surgeons for imaginative and dynamic careers dedicated to caring for patients with acutely life-threatening surgical conditions.

Clinical excellence

The fellowship provides a high volume of trauma experience and acute care surgery. Trauma/ACS fellows serve as Trauma Team Leader and junior attending for Acute Care Surgery, and are responsible for directing patient management, teaching, and quality improvement initiatives. In addition to the trauma and acute care surgery blocks, fellows will rotate through highly relevant surgical subspecialties including, Thoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery.  The fellow will also have the opportunity to participate and teach in structured educational curricula including the ATLS, RTTDC, TEAM and the StopTheBleed® course. The fellow will have the opportunity to attend a trauma-related conference. 

Academic excellence

There are research responsibilities to manage at least one project during the year as well a Grand Round presentation, Morbidity and Mortality round and participating in undergraduate and graduate educational activities. There will be expectation in participating in the Quality Improvement process.
