About the clinic
Congratulations on your kidney transplant. This is the beginning of a new chapter in your kidney health journey. A transplant is not a cure to kidney disease, so it is important to continue with maintaining your health. Our team is here to support you every step of the way. The Kidney Post-Transplant Clinic at The Ottawa Hospital is dedicated to helping you live well with your new kidney through expert care, education and ongoing support.
Our team includes transplant nephrologists, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers and clerks who all work together to provide you with personalized care. We serve over 1,200 transplant recipients in the Ottawa region.
This web page is your central resource for learning about your care after transplant. Whether you are just home from surgery or have been living with your transplant for years, you will find helpful, trustworthy information tailored to every stage of recovery and long-term wellness.
How to get involved
There are several meaningful ways to support others and stay active in the transplant community:
Share your experience with patients considering or preparing for transplant. Learn more at transplantambassadors.ca.
Join or donate to the annual Kidney Foundation Kidney Walk. Funds support kidney patients and research. Visit kidneywalk.ca to find a walk near you.
Peer support
Talking to others who’ve gone through transplant can be a powerful source of support. Many patients and caregivers find comfort, encouragement and practical advice through peer support programs.
Transplant Ambassador Program
This program connects patients with trained peer mentors who have been through the transplant journey themselves. For more details, please visit the Transplant Ambassador Program website.
Kidney Foundation Peer Support Program
This program offers support for both patients and caregivers. To learn more or to request a match, visit Kidney Foundation Peer Support Program website.
