Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship Program

The Ottawa Hospital offers a one-year funded clinical fellowship in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. The fellowship is designed to prepare general surgeons for imaginative and dynamic careers dedicated to caring for patients with acutely life-threatening surgical conditions.
The fellowship provides a high volume of trauma experience and acute care surgery. Trauma/ACS fellows serve as Trauma Team Leader and junior attending for Acute Care Surgery, and are responsible for directing patient management, teaching, and quality improvement initiatives. In addition to the trauma and acute care surgery blocks, fellows will rotate through highly relevant surgical subspecialties including, Thoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery. The fellow will also have the opportunity to participate and teach in structured educational curricula including the ATLS, RTTDC, TEAM and the StopTheBleed® Course. The fellow will have the opportunity to attend a trauma-related conference.
There are research responsibilities to manage at least one project during the year as well a Grand Round presentation, Morbidity and Mortality round and participating in undergraduate and graduate educational activities. There will be expectation in participating in the Quality Improvement process.

One-year funded position from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022 at The Ottawa Hospital – Civic Campus through the University of Ottawa.
Applicants should have completed a full General Surgery residency and qualify for independent practice license with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Applications will be accepted until October 31, 2020. Please submit your CV, personal statement and 2 letters of reference.
