The Ottawa Hospital Stroke Prevention Clinic

The Stroke Prevention Clinic at The Ottawa Hospital provides fast access to assessment, diagnostic services and treatment for patients in the Champlain Region at high risk of stroke.

The Ottawa Hospital was designated as the Regional Stroke Prevention Clinic in 2004. The clinic ensures that individuals at high risk for stroke in the Champlain region receive timely care close to home, following the Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke

The historic main building of The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic Campus on Carling Avenue.

Our goals are to reduce stroke incidence through:

Early assessment and treatment

Screening and managing risk factors

Educating patients and health-care providers

Providing medical care and referrals for surgical treatment

Team

The SPC team includes stroke neurologists, stroke prevention nurses and nurse specialists, and administrative assistants.

At the clinic, the patient will meet with the team to discuss their risk factors. Patients may receive treatment or be referred to a specialist. Your care is based on your needs.

To help streamline the visit, some tests may be completed before the first appointment.
