Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio (HSMR)
Fewer deaths, more lives saved: The Ottawa Hospital is one of the nation’s top “rescue” centres.
The Hospital Standardized Mortality Ratio (HSMR) is a measure used across Canada to compare the number of in-hospital deaths to the number that would be expected based on the types of patients treated. It is one of many indicators used by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) to help understand and monitor hospital performance.
Please visit CIHI’s Acute Care Dashboard which provides up-to-date HSMR results and a range of other quality and performance indicators for hospitals across Canada, including The Ottawa Hospital.
