Who we are

The Ottawa Hospital Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (TCT) Program is a regional facility that performs approximately 200 stem cell transplants per year. Autologous (self) and allogeneic (donor) transplants are performed at the General Campus for both malignant and non-malignant diseases affecting the blood and immune systems. Multidisciplinary hospital team members work together to provide high-quality care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

The TCT program at The Ottawa Hospital was the first program outside of the United States to receive accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).  In 2020, the TCT program received its seventh accreditation, including certification for immune effector cell (IEC) administration, or CAR T-cell therapy.

Our services

Throughout your transplant or cell therapy journey, you will meet many health-care providers committed to providing world-class care and exceptional service. Your care will be provided across these sites:

  • Module L – an ambulatory care clinic located on the second floor of The Ottawa Hospital General Campus.  Module L offers various clinics to meet your needs, both before and after your transplant or cell therapy treatment.
  • Medical Day Care Unit (MDCU) – an outpatient treatment unit located in room 5333 on the 5th floor of The Ottawa Hospital General Campus. MDCU provides care to many patients with varying needs including transplant and cell therapy patients at different stages of treatment.
  • TCT Day Hospital Program – located on the 5th floor of The Ottawa Hospital General Campus. Most patients receive daily care in this unit while undergoing transplant or CAR T-cell therapy. The unit is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you meet the criteria for this program, you will be allowed to come in for daily treatment and assessment and then return home to your family or caregiver. As a day hospital patient, physician coverage is available to you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • 5 West – an inpatient unit located on the 5th floor of The Ottawa Hospital General Campus specializing in the care of leukemia, stem cell transplant and cell therapy patients. This ward features private rooms only. For patient safety reasons, visiting hours on 5 West differ from the standard hospital visiting hours. Your care team will review this with you and your family on admission.
