Inpatient Services at the General and Civic Campuses

TOH has a total of 87 inpatient beds at the two campuses.  There are six beds included in this total specifically funded for the provision of specialized services for the treatment of eating disorders.  The vast majority of patients admitted come through Psychiatric Emergency Services, and roughly 80-85% of patients are admitted on an involuntary basis.  The average length of stay is 11-13 days, although we do have patients that have complex needs that prevent discharge to a more appropriate bed for long term care (e.g. elderly demented individuals or highly complex psychiatric/medical conditions) where the length of stay can be up to two years.
