Overview
The Audiology Department at The Ottawa Hospital provides a wide range of clinical services to patients with hearing or ear-related problems. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for each person and family by enhancing the ability to hear, understand and communicate.
Patients may be seen at the Civic Campus or the General Campus, although not all services are available at both locations. While we primarily provide services to outpatients, we also see inpatients.
Services
Hearing and Balance/Dizziness Evaluations
Including tests of hearing sensitivity, word recognition, middle ear function, inner ear, hearing nerve function and balance.
Cochlear Implant Program
Including consultations, procedures and follow-up care for cochlear implants and bone anchored hearing devices.
Team
Audiologists hold a master’s degree in Audiology from an accredited university program with specialized training in preventing, identifying, assessing, treating and rehabilitating persons with hearing problems, tinnitus and dizziness. They are registered by the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO), which is the provincial regulating body for the profession in Ontario.
Audiologists at The Ottawa Hospital work closely with Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) physicians. We also teach and supervise students, and we participate in research.
