Dr Carole Dennis, Interim Head of Department, Medical Imaging

A Cardiothoracic Radiologist and Clinician Investigator, Dr. Dennie has been appointed to the Faculty of Medicine since 1993. She is a professor with the Department of Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics previously cross-appointed to the Department of Medicine (Cardiology).  She has been Section Head of Cardiac Radiology at the Ottawa Hospital since 2005 and the Head of Thoracic Imaging since 2008.  She is the co-director of Cardiac Radiology and MRI at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Dr. Dennie has served on numerous external committees, boards, and working groups. She is the founding president of the Canadian Society of Thoracic Radiology, a subsidiary of the Canadian Association of Radiologists, that encourages educational, research and administrative connections to maintain the highest standards of thoracic imaging across Canada. She is the Radiology Quality Lead for the Ontario Lung Screening Program at Ontario Health, the President-Elect of the North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging, sits on the Executive Board of the Society of Thoracic Radiology and is Deputy Editor for the journal Radiology – Cardiothoracic Imaging.

Dr. Dennie has extensive leadership experience with the Faculty and TOH, including Radiology Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Fellowship and Continuing Medical Education Director. She has also served on the Departmental and Clinical Faculty Promotions Committee. She has had several roles at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), including Chair of the Diagnostic Radiology Examination Board and Vice Chair of the Diagnostic Radiology Specialty Committee. Dr. Dennie earned her MD at the University of Ottawa and completed her Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Ottawa and McMaster University in 1991. She then completed a Thoracic Imaging Fellowship at McMaster University in 1992 and trained in cardiac MRI at the University Health Network in Toronto, in 2001.
