{"id":74990,"date":"2023-01-12T09:20:34","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T14:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/?p=74990"},"modified":"2023-01-12T10:19:34","modified_gmt":"2023-01-12T15:19:34","slug":"the-ottawa-hospital-and-princess-margaret-cancer-centre-partner-with-gray-oncology-solutions-to-tackle-important-operational-challenges-in-radiation-oncology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/newsroom\/the-ottawa-hospital-and-princess-margaret-cancer-centre-partner-with-gray-oncology-solutions-to-tackle-important-operational-challenges-in-radiation-oncology\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ottawa Hospital and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre partner with Gray Oncology Solutions to tackle important operational challenges in radiation oncology"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"262\" height=\"174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/CancerCentre_GeneralCampus.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-74995\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>January 12, 2023 (Ottawa, ON) \u2013<\/strong> Gray Oncology Solutions\u2019 novel module for radiation therapy, GrayOS, is the first of its kind to be deployed in Ontario. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/\">The Ottawa Hospital <\/a>(TOH), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhn.ca\/\">University Health Network <\/a>(UHN), and <a href=\"https:\/\/gray-os.com\">Gray Oncology Solutions Inc. <\/a>(Gray), with support from the Ontario Bioscience Innovation Organization (<a href=\"https:\/\/obio.ca\"><strong>OBIO<\/strong><\/a><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>) through its Early Adopters Health Network (<a href=\"https:\/\/eahn.obio.ca\/\"><strong>EAHN<\/strong><\/a>\u2122), are evaluating GrayOS&#8217; ability to build radiation therapy schedules that better manage patient wait times while using hospital resources most effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GrayOS is an operating system for oncology that draws on operations research and artificial intelligence to automate and optimize patient scheduling within and across departments. GrayOS for radiation therapy has the potential to unlock additional hospital capacity that will help cancer centres treat more patients, with the same resources and quality of care.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hope that by implementing GrayOS, we will see an improvement in clinical workflow, a reduction in the amount of manual coordination required in scheduling, and evidence of cost savings,\u201d said Dr. Richard Tsang, Interim Chair of Radiation Oncology at UHN\u2019s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs treatments and processes in the radiation therapy workflow become increasingly complex, we are looking forward to seeing GrayOS make care delivery simpler and more efficient for both patients and staff,\u201d said Dr. Srinivas Raman, the physician co-leading the evaluation of GrayOS at UHN\u2019s Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. \u201cThe collaboration between ourselves, Gray, and OBIO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> will provide an important opportunity to evaluate a novel technology with the aim of refining systems and automating processes, which is a strategic goal of our Radiation Medicine Program.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInnovative healthcare partnerships like this will help streamline care in the Ottawa region by optimizing how radiation therapy patients are scheduled and treated,\u201d said Melissa Diffey, Manager of the Radiation Medicine Program at The Ottawa Hospital. \u201cWe are grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with Gray to continue delivering high-quality radiation treatment while contributing to the overall patient experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTOH and OBIO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> have a history of collaboration in delivering high-quality and innovative solutions to address healthcare challenges,\u201d said Dr. Alan Forster, Chief Innovation and Quality Officer at The Ottawa Hospital. \u201cAs one of our four projects with OBIO<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, the partnership with Gray is an opportunity to use innovation to help elevate and streamline how we deliver care to our patients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate the enthusiasm of our hospital partners and the opportunity made possible by EAHN\u2122 to help bring our solution to Ontario,\u201d said Andr\u00e9 Diamant, CEO of Gray.&nbsp; \u201cA successful evaluation will provide an opportunity to engage with other hospitals to help reimagine treatment scheduling for cancer patients.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OBIO\u2019s President and CEO, Dr. Maura Campbell, noted that EAHN\u2122 provides a valuable opportunity for Canadian early-stage companies to partner with healthcare organizations to test their products.&nbsp; \u201cWe are pleased that TOH and UHN can evaluate GrayOS with support from EAHN\u2122 to resolve critical scheduling issues in oncology in the interest of enhancing patient care,\u201d Dr. Campbell said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Results from the EAHN\u2122 evaluation are expected in the first half of 2023.
