We proudly continue this campaign in her honour. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Dr. Elianna\nSaidenberg passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019, after a long battle with\ncancer, The Ottawa Hospital lost a dear friend and an extraordinary medical\nprofessional. But her exceptional work and spirit leave a lasting legacy that our\npatients, staff and students continue to benefit from. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Saidenberg joined\nThe Ottawa Hospital in 2010 as a clinical and laboratory hematologist. She was\nan expert at hematopathology and transfusion medicine, and she enthusiastically\nshared her impressive knowledge, as an assistant professor at the University of\nOttawa. Dr. Saidenberg was also the driving force behind The Ottawa Hospital\u2019s #HelloMyNameIs\ncampaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The international\n#HelloMyNameIs campaign encourages health-care providers to introduce\nthemselves to every patient, every time. Since its start in May 2017, hundreds\nof staff and volunteers have shown their support by taking the pledge and being\nphotographed with the #HelloMyNameIs speech bubble. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cShe lived a life full of love for her family and friends, engagement with the world and her community, and passion for her work.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Debra Bournes, Chief Nursing Executive and Vice-President,\nClinical Programs, worked with Dr. Saidenberg on the Patient and Family\nExperience Steering Committee. She recalled the determination with which Dr.\nSaidenberg brought the campaign to The Ottawa Hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe made us see the difference #HelloMyNameIs could make,\u201d said Dr.\nBournes. \u201cIf she was committed to something, she was a force and you didn\u2019t get\nin her way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Saidenberg\u2019s cancer diagnosis only deepened her empathy for\npatients. After experiencing firsthand what can make people more comfortable\nwhile receiving medical care, she championed the <a href=\"https:\/\/secure3.convio.net\/otthf\/site\/Donation2?df_id=1540&amp;1540.donation=form1&amp;mfc_pref=T&amp;s_locale=en_CA&amp;utm_source=whatshappening&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=drsaidenberg&amp;utm_content=donatenow\">Patient&nbsp;Urgent&nbsp;Needs&nbsp;Fund<\/a>,\nwhich helps eligible patients access necessary non-medical items, like\ntoiletries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis fund is a testament to Elianna\u2019s compassion and empathy&#8230; and\nher determination to fix the world,\u201d said Dr. Daniel Peters, Division Head,\nPlastic Surgery. \u201cShe saw the patient as a person with fears, anxieties\nand apprehensions, embarking on a scary journey\u2026 and she sought to make that\ntransition slightly less painful.\u201d In her honour, Dr. Peters helped\nensure that the fund was renamed the Dr. Elianna Saidenberg Patient Urgent Needs Fund. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Saidenberg\u2019s time with us was much too short. Yet she used it to\nmake a remarkable difference to countless people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe lived a life full of love for her family and friends, engagement\nwith the world and her community, and passion for her work,\u201d said Dr. Peters. \u201cIn\nmany ways, she lived a life to which many of us aspire.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Elianna Saidenberg passed away in October 2019, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and devotion.
