{"id":48219,"date":"2019-06-13T15:44:03","date_gmt":"2019-06-13T19:44:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/?p=48219"},"modified":"2019-06-14T09:04:04","modified_gmt":"2019-06-14T13:04:04","slug":"building-ownership-for-the-new-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/uncategorized\/building-ownership-for-the-new-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Building ownership for the new campus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>Paul Johanis, President of the Greenspace Alliance, co-chairs the Campus Engagement Group, which is examining all the issues that have been consistently rated as most important by the public.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building a new, modern health and research centre in the\nheart of Ottawa is about health care and about the community. Public\ninvolvement is essential in planning the new campus of The Ottawa Hospital \u2013 it\nmeans stronger health outcomes, collaboration on publicly-accessible spaces,\nand integration into the community.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key part of involving the public is creating the new\nCampus Engagement Group,. This group takes a deep dive into issues like access\nand transportation, greenspace, parking and design, which have been\nconsistently rated as most important by the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These issues are rooted in individual values and are too\ncomplex to solve using traditional consultation methods like town halls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe hospital has hit upon a great idea for getting the\ncommunity more deeply involved in this project,\u201d&nbsp;said group co-chair Paul\nJohanis, who is the current Chair of the Greenspace Alliance. \u201cAs members of\nthe Campus Engagement Group, we will have an opportunity to debate first-hand\nkey issues facing the hospital and the community and to make our voices heard\nat the most senior levels of the organization. Together, we can find solutions\nthat really work.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group\u2019s 18 members include community leaders from local\nneighbourhood associations and groups that advocate for seniors, greenspace,\nheritage, the Central Experimental Farm, patients, and people who have\ndisabilities.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group was created based on recommendations in the\nthird-party engagement report <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Setting-the-Stage-Turning-the-Page-FINAL-Report-September-2017-En.._.pdf\">Setting\nthe Stage, Turning the Page<\/a><\/em>. The group will make recommendations\nto the hospital\u2019s Board of Governors by deliberating, comparing perspectives\nand identifying possible compromises together.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Campus Engagement Group is one of three ways the\nhospital is engaging the public on the new campus, alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/greatertogether.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/What-we-heard-Jan-31-2018-EN.pdf\">online\nactivities and in-person events<\/a> such as community town halls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHospitals in the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century need to be\nintegrated into their communities, and The Ottawa Hospital is fortunate to be\npart of a passionate community with leaders who want to be involved,\u201d said\nBernie Etzinger, Chief Engagement Steward with the Campus Engagement Group.\n\u201cTheir work on the Campus Engagement Group will be critical in making sure we\nbuild the best possible health-care facility.\u201d&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn more about The Ottawa Hospital\u2019s new campus, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.GreaterTogether.ca\">GreaterTogether.ca<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Johanis, President of the Greenspace Alliance, co-chairs the Campus Engagement Group, which is examining all the issues that have been consistently rated as most important by the public.
