distinguished career as an anesthesiologist and health-care leader.\u00a0As President and CEO of The Ottawa Hospital for nearly 20 years, he has guided one of Canada\u2019s largest teaching and research hospitals, developing and implementing unique patient-centred care.\u00a0He has also been influential in creating a more integrated health-care system in Ontario.\u00a0A leader among colleagues and a mentor to young physicians, he is widely recognized as a champion of better health practices across the country<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\nThe motto of the Order of Canada is “they desire a better country.” While most of us have known Dr. Kitts as the CEO, today’s announcement shines a light on the work he has done over many decades to improve health-care delivery and health-care outcomes for our health system in Ottawa and across Canada.<\/p>\n
Almost 700 people have been recognized by the Governor General over the past 50 years for their contributions to health care. Dr. Kitts joins this inspirational group of people who, through their passion and dedication, have made health care their life\u2019s work.<\/p>\n
