On Jan. 31, The Ottawa Hospital presented a draft architectural concept of its new campus at a public information session held at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park. The concept reflects feedback provided<\/a> by the public at in-person sessions held in fall 2017 and online from The Ottawa Hospital\u2019s new campus website GreaterTogether.ca<\/a>, as well as architectural analysis of the site of the former Sir John Carling building.<\/p>\n

The concept incorporates the natural features of the Sir John Carling site, while also considering greenspace and preserving mature trees. It proposes an approach to underground parking that is discrete in its design, efficient for patients and families, flexible for future vehicle developments, and integrated into a hospital structure.<\/p>\n

This draft concept marks the starting point of a decade-long journey to plan, design and build a vital addition to eastern Ontario\u2019s health system, replacing the aging Civic Campus.<\/p>\n

The concept is a required part of the hospital\u2019s first submission to the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to advance funding, services and design discussions as the first stage of a five stage process.<\/p>\n

Over the next three years, The Ottawa Hospital will work closely with the community-at-large, patients and staff, and our local and provincial partners in health care and government to validate and finalize a design, including its funding, using this concept to guide that work. The Ottawa Hospital is also working with local stakeholders on the makeup and mandate of a Campus Engagement Group, implementing the recommendations of the third-party report on public engagement released in September 2017 that will work with the hospital\u2019s board during the next three years.<\/p>\n

You may also share ideas<\/a> about the new campus and sign up to receive updates. Further information sessions will be planned for later this spring.<\/p>\n

The current Civic Campus will soon have cared for the citizens of our region for 100 years. Together, we will create a 21st<\/sup>-century health-care facility for compassionate care, research, health promotion and learning, for generations to come.<\/p>\n
