After she passed away, he worked with hospital staff to ensure her wishes were granted. Ronnie Gavsie (left), President and CEO of Trillium Gift of Life Network, and Katherine Cotton, chair of the hospital\u2019s Board of Governors, welcomed him at the award ceremony.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When Brenda Ringlet passed away suddenly in 2016, her family was in shock. At age 60, she left behind two children and her husband, Peter. But despite the shock and sadness of losing someone they loved so dearly, her family found great comfort in knowing that Brenda helped save many lives, even after she passed away.<\/p>\n<p>Because of cases like this, and many others in the region, The Ottawa Hospital received two awards from Trillium <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giftoflife.on.ca\">Gift of Life Network<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hospital Achievement Conversion Rate Award:<\/strong> The Ottawa Hospital has an 84-percent conversion rate. This rate is determined by the number of potential donors who become actual donors. The Ottawa Hospital had the most actual donors in 2016-2017 amongst its peer hospitals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Award of Excellence:<\/strong> Awarded to hospitals that meet the provincial level for conversion rates for four or more years in a row.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trillium Gift of Life Network recognized the hospital for its efforts to ensure that patient wishes are granted, for those who want to donate their organs. Knowing that a part of her would live on, and that she helped others get a second chance at life, brought us great comfort during a difficult time. We will never forget that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud of the exceptional care and work that goes into facilitating organ donations,\u201d said Renate Ilse, Vice-President of Clinical Programs at The Ottawa Hospital. \u201cWorking closely with our patients and their loved ones is part of the care and compassion that we provide here at The Ottawa Hospital. Knowing that their loved ones\u2019 wishes have been fulfilled will hopefully bring some comfort to families in this situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ottawa Hospital is not alone in this exceptional performance in organ donation.
