{"id":3089,"date":"2015-05-22T14:41:39","date_gmt":"2015-05-22T18:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/52.229.122.34\/en\/?p=3089"},"modified":"2017-04-03T11:22:50","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T15:22:50","slug":"construction-what-it-means-for-you-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/newsroom\/construction-what-it-means-for-you-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction: what it means for you"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>May 22, 2015<\/strong> <strong>\u2013 <\/strong>You know how the old saying goes: Cities in Canada have two seasons \u2013 winter and construction.<\/p>\n<p>The City announced plans for spring and summer construction at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/s\/r3w7lb3tn714chp\/23Apr15_SpringTechBrief_Deckv5.ppt?dl=0\" target=\"_blank\">technical briefing last week<\/a>. Projects include road resurfacing, continuing work on the downtown tunnel of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ligneconfederationline.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Confederation Line<\/a>, ongoing work on Belfast Yard where the new light rail vehicles will be stored and maintained, and more.<\/p>\n<p>So what does this mean for commuters? Here are some highlights from the technical briefing:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.octranspo1.com\/routes\/on_track_2018\" target=\"_blank\">Light rail construction is shifting east June 28<\/a><br \/>\nEast-end commuters: plan for a longer commute this summer. OC Transpo will be rerouting buses along the Queensway between Blair and Campus stations.<br \/>\nIn order to convert the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to rail, transit service along a section of\u00a0the Transitway between Hurdman and Blair stations will be relocated to new bus lanes on Highway 174, Highway 417 and other parallel corridors. OC Transpo will also be introducing a new route (Route 91) which might even be faster than the current 95.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Traffic hot spots<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While there will be many road construction projects throughout the city, only some areas are expected to cause delays of more than 15 minutes. Those areas include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opening of the fourth lane of Highway 417 between Nicholas and the Split<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ottawa.ca\/en\/city-hall\/planning-and-development\/construction-and-infrastructure-projects\/roadwork\/under-way\/main\" target=\"_blank\">Main Street<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Beginning May 25, northbound traffic on sections of Main Street will be detoured via Riverside Drive, Bank Street and Isabella Street. <\/strong>Only southbound traffic will be maintained during construction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Nicholas Street<\/li>\n<li>Sussex Drive<\/li>\n<li>Macdonald-Cartier Bridge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ottawa is on the move with <a href=\"https:\/\/ottawa.ca\/en\/city-hall\/planning-and-development\/major-projects\" target=\"_blank\">major construction<\/a> and renewal projects underway to ensure our city\u2019s continued development as a global capital, and one of the best cities in Canada to live, work and invest. So hang in there, everyone!
