{"id":228270,"date":"2025-06-25T08:33:37","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T12:33:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/?p=228270"},"modified":"2025-07-09T09:16:03","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T13:16:03","slug":"celebrating-the-summer-solstice-and-national-indigenous-peoples-day-a-photo-essay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/healthy-tomorrows\/celebrating-the-summer-solstice-and-national-indigenous-peoples-day-a-photo-essay\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating the summer solstice and National Indigenous Peoples Day: A photo essay"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>The Ontario Native Women\u2019s Association sings and drums at the University of Ottawa\u2019s Indigenous Garden to celebrate the summer solstice and National Indigenous Peoples Day.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only is the summer solstice the longest day of the year, but it also marks the beginning of summer and holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for many First Nation, Inuit and M\u00e9tis communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across Canada, the summer solstice coincides with National Indigenous Peoples Day. Held every year on June 21, this day is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate and learn about the cultures, stories and traditions of Indigenous Peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday, June 20, our staff and physicians celebrated with members of The Ottawa Hospital\u2019s Indigenous Employee Network, the Ontario Native Women\u2019s Association, not-for-profit services provider Tungasuvvingat Inuit, CHEO and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A special shoutout to the many students from CHEO\u2019s kindergarten program who joined us that morning. It was an occasion marked across generations, and one that many of us will remember for a long time to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\"
