They also connect patients and families to the community resources needed for a smooth discharge and to help those coping with the problems that come with illness.<\/p>\n<p>Social workers often receive appreciative letters from patients and families. Here are some more examples:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou took care of me, while the rest of the emergency team took care of my husband,\u201d said the wife of a stroke patient. \u201cYou made me feel like I was your only patient at the time. You were calm and clear while I was stressed and worried.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parents who lost their newborn wrote: \u201cThanks so much for everything you did. Your support was very comforting.
