{"id":1384,"date":"2012-01-03T14:18:40","date_gmt":"2012-01-03T19:18:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/52.229.122.34\/en\/?p=1384"},"modified":"2017-04-03T13:00:33","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T17:00:33","slug":"tohs-senior-management-team-delivers-value-to-our-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/newsroom\/tohs-senior-management-team-delivers-value-to-our-community\/","title":{"rendered":"TOH\u2019s senior management team delivers value to our community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Carole Workman<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>January 3, 2012<\/strong> <strong>\u2013<\/strong> The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) today disclosed its <a href=\"\/en\/about-us\/freedom-of-information\/contracts\/\">CEO\u2019s, Senior Vice-Presidents\u2019 and Vice-Presidents\u2019 contracts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We released them for 3 reasons.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>We\u2019ve established a track record of transparency and accountability in our relations with the community. We regularly publish quality and safety results, senior management team expenses and our annual salary and benefits disclosure. This is a logical next step.<\/li>\n<li>As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/laws\/statute\/90f31\" target=\"_blank\">Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act (FIPPA<\/a>) comes into force for Ontario hospitals, many questions \u2013 such as those about executive contracts \u2013 will be asked. Hospitals must create a healthy environment within which to address such questions.<\/li>\n<li>Most importantly, we wish to assure our community that they receive excellent value from our leaders. Patients and citizens are encouraged to review these contracts in conjunction with our quality and safety results, as compared to peers in the academic health sciences sector.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Those who do so will learn that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TOH CEO compensation ranks among the lowest of its peers.<\/li>\n<li>TOH is a leader in Hospital Standardized Mortality Rate (HSMR):\n<ul>\n<li>Our rating of 91 means our care team saves more lives than normally expected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>TOH is a leader in \u201ccost per weighted case\u201d:\n<ul>\n<li>This means that TOH performs the same procedures as its peers, at a lower cost.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute is now ranked among Canada\u2019s Top 5 health research institutes, enabling TOH to attract the best doctors and deliver world-class care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Naturally, we can do more. Ontario is the only province without formal guidance on executive compensation. We believe that guidance would be useful. We will work with the Ontario Hospital Association to develop a provincial framework to set compensation for executives.<\/p>\n<p>In the mean time, TOH executive salaries continue to be set commensurate with the complexity and volume of the services we provide.
