{"id":1112,"date":"2011-02-07T11:50:15","date_gmt":"2011-02-07T16:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/52.229.122.34\/en\/?p=1112"},"modified":"2017-04-03T13:16:31","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T17:16:31","slug":"better-dress-code-for-all-employees-and-health-professionals-at-toh-improves-patient-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ottawahospital.on.ca\/en\/newsroom\/better-dress-code-for-all-employees-and-health-professionals-at-toh-improves-patient-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Better dress code for all employees and health professionals at TOH improves patient care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Scrubs_Check.jpg\" alt=\"Scrubs Check\" width=\"416\" height=\"314\" \/>February 9, 2011<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u2013<\/strong> Over the past year, consultation and feedback from patients, staff, and professional practice groups throughout the hospital \u2013 as well as a review of existing research \u2013 confirmed that a key to ensuring patients\u2019 comfort and safety is the ability to easily recognize members of their care teams.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, all professionals at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH); whether they are nurses, physicians, other health professionals or support staff, are asked to dress in a manner that clearly identifies them to patients.<\/p>\n<p>Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses still have control over what scrubs they wear. In addition, they are now asked to wear lab coats, in accordance with our <a title=\"\/wps\/wcm\/connect\/03b5bd0045b4dff98f08ef37f5617b32\/NSG-4-B191+GUIDELINES.pdf?MOD=AJPERES GUIDELINES FOR NURSING LAB COATS\" href=\"\/en\/documents\/2017\/01\/labcoat-e.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Guidelines for Nursing Lab Coats<\/a>, so patients and families can recognize them. Nothing prevents them from wearing scrubs with prints, as the attached photos demonstrate.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, other health professionals will dress in accordance with the guidelines for their professional group.
